    August 2023

In support of MAC’s long-term vision for Moorabbin Airport’s future, aviation customer Learn To Fly Melbourne (LTF), a leading flight training school, has recently signed a 10-year lease with Moorabbin Airport as it significantly expands its operations. With support from MAC, LTF will enjoy a purpose-built flight training facility designed to enhance the learning and training experience, featuring over 1,000 sqm of additional classrooms that will train more than 200 future pilots at any one time. Ahead of this exciting shift for our long-term aviation customer, we recently sat down with LTF’s Managing Director, Kai Li to discuss their important role as a respected aviation customer within the Airport’s community.

What attracted you to become an aviation customer at the Moorabbin Airport precinct?

“We chose Moorabbin Airport as our home since our establishment in 2016. The decision to set up our flying school here was driven by several compelling factors. Moorabbin Airport has an exceptional reputation as an aviation hub. Its strategic location provides our students with diverse training opportunities, varied airspace conditions, and exposure to a vibrant aviation community. The proximity to Melbourne city also ensures easy accessibility for our students and staff, making it a convenient and ideal location for aviation enthusiasts.”

Tell us about your location and facility within the Moorabbin Airport precinct – how has it changed and how does your new space support the growth of your business?

“Our new location within the Airport precinct offers state-of-the-art facilities and a conducive environment for aviation training. The upgraded space provides ample room for our expanding student base and advanced training equipment. With modern classrooms and dedicated briefing areas, we can now deliver an even higher standard of flight training and accommodate a more comprehensive range of courses.”

How does Moorabbin Airport Corporation support you as an aviation customer?

“Moorabbin Airport Corporation has been an invaluable partner in supporting us as an aviation customer. They offer a well-maintained and safe airport infrastructure that allows us to conduct our flight training operations efficiently.”

Has the growth and evolution of Moorabbin Airport as a broader retail and business park helped your business in any way?

“The airport’s transformation into a vibrant retail and business hub has attracted a diverse range of visitors and businesses, resulting in increased foot traffic and visibility for our flying school. This enhanced exposure has allowed us to reach a broader audience of potential students and aviation enthusiasts. Additionally, the availability of various retail and service amenities within the airport precinct has created a more convenient and welcoming environment for our students and staff.”

How does Moorabbin Airport help you achieve your business goals?

“The airport’s strategic location and reputation as an aviation hub have attracted a steady flow of aspiring pilots and aviation enthusiasts, allowing us to build a strong and diverse student base. Overall, being part of Moorabbin Airport has been a key factor in propelling our flying school towards our business objectives and maintaining our position as a leading provider of aviation education and training.”

Moorabbin Airport Corporation is committed to the growth and evolution of Moorabbin Airport as one of Australia’s leading training airports. How do you feel about the recently submitted Master Plan and plans for future investment in the precinct?

“We are thrilled and fully supportive of Moorabbin Airport Corporation’s commitment to the growth and evolution of Moorabbin Airport as a premier training airport in Australia. As a key stakeholder in the airport community, we look forward to actively participating in the realisation of these plans and contributing to the continued success and development of Moorabbin Airport as a prominent aviation training destination.”

Significant site, a major employer and a centre for community activity in one of the fastest growing regions in Victoria.
