September 2023
On Wednesday, 6 September 2023, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon. Catherine King MP, approved our 2021 Master Plan, propelling our vision to continue Moorabbin Airport’s evolution as a State Significant place, key activity centre and leading Australian general aviation and flight training airport over the next 20 years.
At Moorabbin Airport, we are committed to catering to the needs of our customers and our communities, businesses and partners, who are the lifeblood of our precinct. The approval of our Master Plan allows us to effectively plan for the future – our future – a future that meets the needs of our community and stakeholders.
Through our plans for safety, infrastructure, facilities, amenities, services and operations, we are an important base for our stakeholders to connect.
Moorabbin Airport’s focus always was, and always will be, safe aviation – our approach for future land use is framed around growth, safe airspace, flight training and education as well as aviation infrastructure. Areas that are for non-aviation will greatly help to upgrade legacy infrastructure to benefit aviation and non-aviation customers. Building on the success of our 2015 Master Plan, our commitment to Moorabbin Airport’s continual future growth has given us national status as a leading Airport.
To date, we’ve been able to facilitate the largest number of safe flight training aircraft movements by any Australian general aviation airport. We’ve generated an increase of aviation students by 40 per cent, and have modernised 46 per cent of our aviation facilities' floorspace.
In addition to this, we have generated local economic activity and employment within the City of Kingston – generating $870 million of economic benefit per year. With our Plan, this is forecast to increase to $1.2 billion over the next eight years alone.
From privatisation, our long-term strategy has enabled us to deliver a world-leading, sustainable and mixed-use urban site for our stakeholders.
As we look to the future, our vision continues to be underpinned by safety, sustainability and collaboration with our community to meet the everchanging social and industry climate.
With $250 million invested in aviation, non-aviation and sustainable projects since 2015, we look forward to investing a further $285 million during the next eight years. Working together, we have established a world class Airport that is community-centric and dedicated to making a positive impact on local communities, the environment, the economy and the aviation sector. We look forward to further enhancing the Moorabbin Airport precinct to better serve our users and communities – current, new and emerging.
