Re: Airport Building Controller Charges at Moorabbin Airport

This is to advise that from 1 July 2011, new charges apply for applications to the Airport Building Controller for Building, Works and Demolition at Moorabbin Airport.

As you are aware any works on airport require the approval of Moorabbin Airport Corporation (as Landlord and planning authority) in the first instance. Once approval to undertake works is received from Moorabbin Airport Corporation, applications must be made to the Airport Building Controller for relevant building, works and demolition permits.

The Airport Building Controller fees and charges are set by the Commonwealth Government and Moorabbin Airport Corporation does not control the setting of these charges.

We note that the current fee structure (pre 1 July 2011) has remained static for some years. The Commonwealth government recently undertook a review of charges at airports. Airport charges were compared with those charged by local councils and independent certifiers relating to the approval of building and works permits off airport.

As a result of that review the Commonwealth Government found that airport permit charges needed to be reviewed as they were well below what would be charged off airport for comparable approvals.

The new schedule of fees to apply from 1July 2011 for Melbourne, Essendon and Moorabbin Airports recently issued by the Commonwealth government is attached. As with previous fees, the fee levels are set according to the estimated value of works being undertaken under the application.

Moorabbin Airport will shortly be up-dating its guidelines for Requirements for Construction, Building and Operations at Moorabbin Airport and these new charges will be incorporated into the guidelines, however in the meantime please note these charges when making applications to the Airport Building Controller.
